Caine's Arcade Global Cardboard Challenge
Smurfit Kappa Ireland, a leading producer of paper-based packaging, and the Irish Youth Foundation (IYF), a charity that builds brighter futures for vulnerable children are teaming up again this year for ‘The Cardboard Challenge’ a children’s creative project, which will take place in Galway (11th October ), Dublin (25th October), Cork (1st November ) Belfast (8th November) and Waterford (15th November)
The project is inspired by Caine’s Arcade, an imaginative cardboard arcade created by nine-year-old Caine Monroy from Los Angeles whose story fascinated the world by becoming a global YouTube phenomenon
Caine’s DIY Cardboard Arcade is the catalyst for a Global Cardboard Challenge,
The Smurfit Kappa Ireland/ IYF project will involve 25 young people aged 8-10 from five homework clubs in each city and a team of artists and creative facilitators at the only Irish Cardboard Challenge, which is themed around sustainable houses of the future.
Smurfit Kappa Ireland will provide the IYF with financial assistance to support the project; corrugated materials as well as advice and assistance in working with the material at the workshop; and technology support in providing an online presence for the project. A group of Smurfit Kappa Ireland employees are volunteering their time to support the pilot project.
