The Irish Youth Foundation with Blackrock College and Willowpark have just broken the Guinness World Record of the Worlds Largest Scrum. The last attempt was 840 students in Ravenhill. However we have just had 946 students in our scrum so we will be sending all documentation to the Guinness Book of Records so that they can officially declare it.

946 students from Blackrock College and Willow Park Schools in Dublin ‘crouched’, ‘touched’ and ‘set’ under the watchful eye of International Rugby Referee Alain Roland, and supported by Oracle, to successfully set a new world record for the World’s Largest Scrum today [Thursday 24th October at 1.45pm] to raise funds and awareness for the Irish Youth Foundation’s Children’s Hour giving campaign.

Children’s Hour is an annual giving campaign run by the Irish Youth Foundation (IYF) that invites businesses and their employees all over Ireland to donate one hour of their salary to children that need their help.

The Blackrock scrummagers fundraised €3,000 themselves, and employees of Oracle, who were the largest donors to Children’s Hour last year, have set a target of matching this figure.

Children’s Hour takes place on 20th November, which is also International Children’s Day. Since Children’s Hour was launched in 2000 more than €2 million has been raised and distributed to community and voluntary groups around the country and thousands of children have received the care, love and support they need.
